Trapped animals rescued in Ukraine’s Kherson after Kakhovka dam collapse

KHERSON, UKRAINE - JUNE 7: Ukrainian rescuers continued to evacuate civilians and animals in Kherson a day after the collapse of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant’s dam. More than 1,450 people have already been evacuated, Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, the spokesman for the State Emergency Service, said this on the air of the nationwide news telethon. Explosions at the Kakhovka dam near Kherson, southern Ukraine unleashed floodwaters on Tuesday, as both Moscow and Kyiv accused each other of destruction. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Twitter that the dam’s destruction "confirms for the whole world that they (Russian forces) must be expelled from every corner of Ukrainian land."
