Queen Sofía attends the traditional thanksgiving to Medinaceli. On the first Friday of March there is a tradition of kissing the feet of the sculpture Cristo de Medinaceli as a sign of devotion. Following instructions from the Bishop of Cartagena, parishioners should not kiss or touch the sculpture and they exchanged the gesture by bowing their heads.
