SPEECH - Writers Guild Of America Strike Enters Its Seventh Week

The Writers Guild of America walked in solidarity with American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) marking today the 7th consecutive week for WGA while delaying and disrupting television and movie productions throughout the East and West Coasts. The board of directors for the Writers Guild of America, which includes West Coast and East Coast branches, voted unanimously to call for a walkout. Negotiations between WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), a top guild and a trade association that represents Hollywood’s top studios, failed to avert the first walkout in more than 15 years. Union members have stated that they are not being paid fairly in the streaming era and are seeking a new contract - pay increases and structural changes to the business model.
