The cement render has just been taken of the walls of a 17th century farm houseModern cement is a wonderful product but unfortunately not for covering historic houses made with a timber frame. In the 1960's and 70's it was unknown what damage would be caused by covering a timber frame building with an impenetrable layer of cement . The house becomes unable to breath, the moisture becomes trapped inside causing the timber frame to deteriorate very quickly. Restoring the building requires removing the cement render and starting again. part of a series documenting the restoration of a 17th century farm house.
