Clarksdale is located at the crossroads of Highways 61 and 49 where, according to legend, Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for his mastery of the blues guitar. In addition to Robert Johnson the town has been home to Muddy Waters, Big Jack Johnson, Ike Turner, Pinetop Perkins, W. C. Handy and other music legends.
