BLOOD VESSEL (VENULE) with numerous RED BLOOD CELLS (ERYTHROCYTES), longitudinal section, 250X. The venule is a very small vein which is lined with an extremely thin endothelium (simple squamous epithelium) which includes very flat nuclei--very prominent in this image. The red blood cells are biconcave disks with thin centers, hence many of the cells show a white central area representing the thin center. Red blood cells lack a nucleus, contain large amounts of Hemoglobin, and transport oxygen. Scalp, subcutaneous layer.
