UNITED KINGDOM - DECEMBER 18: The Tay Bridge, taken shortly before it collapsed in 1879. The bridge, which crosses the Firth of Tay at Dundee, collapsed on 28 December 1879, while a passenger train was crossing the bridge. All the crew and passengers were killed. At that time it was the longest bridge in the world, at 2 miles long. The accident was caused partly by bad weather although it was later revealed that there were severe flaws in its girders.
