Observatory Rodewisch

25 March 2021, Saxony, Rodewisch: Olaf Graf, director of the observatory and planetarium, sets up the new combination reflecting telescope, refracting telescope and an astrograph in the historic, rotating wooden dome. Saxony's observatories are making themselves fit for the coming years with investments. In the facility in Rodewisch, which was opened in 1967, a new reflecting telescope with a diameter of 50 centimeters will be the focus of the newly renovated wooden dome. In the GDR, there was a high density of observatories and planetariums, partly due to the compulsory subject of astronomy. This makes the survival of the facilities as tourist destinations difficult today. Visitors can be attracted by spectacular celestial events such as the flyby of a comet or a solar eclipse. The associated planetariums enable perspective changes or virtual space flights through the projection of an artificial starry sky.
