Sinkhole Occurs Near Fukuoka Train Station; No Injuries Reported

A sinkhole 20 meters long and 15 meters wide occurred in front of JR Hakata Station here on November 8, 2016, Fukuoka Japan, but no injuries were reported, police said. Police are calling on people in nearby buildings to evacuate the area. Two sections of the five-lane city road in Fukuoka’s Hakata Ward caved in around 5:15 a.m. The two holes gradually expanded and eventually connected. According to the Transportation Bureau of the Fukuoka city government, work to bore a tunnel for a subway line was taking place beneath the road.
