Gordon Brown visits British troops in Afghanistan; AFGHANISTAN: Kandahar: EXT British Prime Minister Gordon Brown MP speaking to British soldiers Gordon Brown MP (British Prime Minister) interview SOT (Drone aircraft in background) - Here to thank our troops for their bravery, professionalism and dedication / been a difficult year and taken a lot of casualties / morale is exceptionally high / confident about the way ahead because more troops are coming in and equipment is of a higher standard than ever before / doubled the number of helicopters and mine protecting vehicles / greater surveillance against explosive devices that have caused so many of the deaths / next few months are critical / need to show there is support from the general public / determination to take on and weaken the Taliban / determination on the part of the Afghan government to play a bigger part in the future on what is to be done / Taliban using improvised explosive devices because they can not take on British forces face to face / we are stepping up surveillance so we are more aware of what is happening / more intelligence being collected / better numbers of engineers and better ways of deflecting and dismantling explosives / things done to weaken the Taliban and show that they can not win in this campaign / resources have been substantial and more is going to be done to make that resource even greater / dismantled nealry 1500 explosive devices over the last few months
