Capybaras Stay Warm In Their Own Hot Spring In Himeji

Although they would prefer a warmer climate, capybaras at Himeji Central Park, a safari park in the city, are settling for a hot bath amid the late fall chill as a seasonal treat ,Decmber 5, 2015 in Himeji, Japan. At the end of November, a pond in the park was filled with hot water to set up a "hot spring" for the large South American rodents. “It always warms my heart to see a family of capybaras taking a bath together in the hot spring,” said Kei Fujimoto, 22, their caretaker. From Dec. 19 for a week, the capybaras will follow the Japanese tradition of bathing with yuzu fruit floating on the surface on the day of the winter solstice.
