Lying in the eastern Caribbean between Martinique and Saint Vincent, Saint Lucia is one of the Windward Islands, which themselves form part of the Lesser Antilles. Soufriere, the former capital of the island, boasts an enviable location at the foot of the iconic Pitons, twin coastal peaks over 700 metres in height. The Pitons Management Area was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004.
