Place Stanislas is a square belonging to a classical urban ensemble, with the triumphal arch Héré (Arc Héré), the Carrière Square (Place de la Carrière) and the Alliance Square (Place d'Alliance) located in Nancy, in the historic region of Lorraine. The square and its urban ensemble are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Wanted by Stanisław Leszczyński (Stanislas in French or Stanislaus I - 1677-1766), King of Poland, Duke of Lorraine and Bar, it was built between 1751 and 1755 under the direction of the architect Emmanuel Héré, to honor his father-in-law Louis XV. The square measures 106 x 124 m. It is surrounded by four pavilions, the Arc Héré in the north and the Town Hall in the south, the longest building on the square. A bronze statue of Stanislas Leszczyński is located at the center.
