A more common name for this Speleothem or cave formation is Cave Bacon. The vignette on the image is from the use of flashlight on the subject. Lehman caves were discovered in the 1880s. Before National Park Service took control of the caves in this park in 1933, much damaged has been done by operators and visitors. Today, they remain protected as part of Great Basin National Park.
