The Eiffel Tower is a puddled iron tower 324 meters in height (with antenna) located in Paris, at the northwest end of the park Champ de Mars beside the Seine in the 7th district. Built by Gustave Eiffel and his staff for the 1889 Paris Exposition, and initially named "300-meter tower", this monument has become the symbol of the French capital, and a leading attraction: it is the second French Cultural pay site most visited in 2011, with 7.1 million visitors of which 75% foreigners in 2011, the Notre-Dame de Paris in the lead monuments to free access with 13.6 million visitors estimated but remains the most visited paid monument in the world. It welcomed its 250 millionth visitor in 2010.At a height of 312 meters at the outset, the Eiffel Tower remained the highest monument in the world for 41 years. The second level of the third floor, sometimes called fourth floor, located at 279.11 m, is the highest observation platform open to the public of the European Union and the second highest in Europe, behind the Ostankino Tower in Moscow peaking at 337 m. The height of the tower was increased several times by installing several antennas. Used in the past for many scientific experiments, it now serves as a transmitter of radio and television programs.
