The flag of Venezuela features a horizontal tricolor arrangement of yellow, blue, and red. These colors draw inspiration from the former Gran Colombia federation's flag, where Venezuela, along with Colombia and Ecuador, was a member from 1819 to 1830. Unlike the flags of other former federation members, the Venezuelan flag has equal-width stripes. Positioned in the center of the blue stripe, an arc of eight five-pointed stars adds a unique touch, and on the upper left side, the flag displays a coat of arms (in the case of the national flag). These stars symbolize the seven Venezuelan provinces that endorsed an agreement during the dissolution of Gran Colombia. The addition of an eighth star in 2006 aims to represent the Esequiba province, located in Guyana's territory, a region claimed by Venezuela.
