The flag of Idaho consists of a blue field with the state seal in the center. The phrase State of Idaho in gold letters appears on a yellow and red ribbon below the seal. According to the official description, the flag should have a gold border around the edges, though many versions omit this detail. The seal features a miner and a woman representing equality, liberty, and justice. The symbols depicted refer to the state's natural resources: mining, forestry, agriculture, and wildlife. The design of the flag is based on the banner carried by the First Idaho Infantry in 1899 during the Spanish-American War. It was adopted on March 12, 1907, and has been slightly modified in 1957.
