Picture was taken from a viewpoint called "Belvédère des 3 Lacs (3 lakes belvedere)" accessible via a small hiking trail. Two of the three lakes of the area are actually visible on the photograph : Le Grand Maclu in the foreground and Lac de la Motte/Lac d'Illay in the background. These two lakes have the particularity of having a coastline underlined by a clear border due to the accumulation of carbonate precipitates ("lake chalk"). The lakes are situated at an altitude of circa 800 meters and are protected as part of the Haut Jura Regional Natural Park.
