Japan's Disapearing Beaches

Japanese government experts have warned that Chiba prefecture could lose up to 90 percent of its beaches by the end of the 21st century amid expected worsening weather conditions and rising sea levels. Prefectural officials have announced a plan to begin a 30-year project to build sea defences to protect the beaches. Scientists have also stated that beaches across Japan have been eroding since as a result of artificial land alterations in the form of concrete river banks, dams, ports and breakwaters which have affected the natural sand supply from rivers to coastal areas.
