1908 Summer Olympics - Men's Marathon

The US and Italian flags being raised following the men's marathon event of the 1908 Summer Olympics, at White City Stadium, London, 24th July 1908. The race was won by Dorando Pietri of Italy, with Johnny Hayes of the USA second. Pietri was later disqualified for being helped over the line at the end of the race, so that Hayes was awarded the gold medal, with Charles Hefferon of South Africa and Joseph Forshaw of the USA taking silver and bronze, respectively.
