Community driven disaster preparedness for cyclones and Hurricanes in India

The state of Odisha in India on the coast of the Bay of Bengal is highly vulnerable due to cyclones and hurricanes. Today the local people are building resilience into their lives to face life threatening disasters. The World Bank is also helping build Multi-purpose Cyclone Shelters where people can take refuge during hurricanes. People blow conch shells to warn about cyclones and conduct drills and learn about first aid. The low lying areas are being provided robust houses.
