Winner's Gold Medal - Inaugural FIFA World Cup - Jose Andrade

The reverse of the gold winner's medal for the inaugural FIFA World Cup (Coupe du Monde) awarded to Uruguay's Jose Leandro Andrade after their 4-2 win over Argentina at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo on 30th July 1930. He played for Uruguay in every match in the tournament despite being blind in one eye. Andrade, nicknamed the "Black Marvel", was considered one of the finest footballers of his generation and was a member of the Uruguayan squad that won the gold medal in the football competition in both the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris and again in Amsterdam in 1928 (Photo by Popperfoto via Getty Images/Getty Images)
