Icebergs And Effects Of Climate Change

The Ilulissat Icefjord, also known as Sermeq Kujalleq, is draining approximately 7% of Greenland's ice sheet in Ilulissat, Greenland, on July 3, 2024. This glacier, the largest outside of Antarctica, is calving enough ice daily to meet New York City's water needs for an entire year. In recent decades, the glacier is moving at unprecedented speeds, reaching up to 40 meters per day, a significant increase from the 19 meters per day recorded prior to 2002. Since 1850, the glacier is retreating a staggering 40 kilometers, a retreat attributed to the alarming effects of human-induced climate change.
