LUANDA, Angola: The first victims of Angola's yellow fever outbreak were two Eritrean migrants carrying false vaccination papers in Km 30, part of the capital's sprawling Viana district, in mid-December. Angola is battling the world's worst outbreak of yellow fever in decades - a mosquito-born disease that can be prevented by a single inoculation. The outbreak takes place within the context of a broader health crisis: nearly 3,000 people died of malaria in the first three months of this year, compared to 8,000 in the whole of 2015, according to the WHO, and outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, typhoid or plague are not out of the question. Since the end of Angola's three decades of civil war in 2002 the country has enjoyed massive oil-fueled economic growth - but the government has been criticized for failing to channel its gains into it's country's healthcare system or broader development (Nichole Sobecki for The Washington Post via Getty Images)
