Berlaymont Building in Brussels

The Berlaymont building houses the new European Commission headquarters in Brussels. Portuguese EU Chairman Jose Manuel Durao Barroso has decided all 25 European Commissioners would have to move to the Berlaymont building by November 1st, 2004. The Berlaymont was built in the 1960s and occupied until 1991. By that time major works were needed to remove the large quantities of asbestos present in the building and the decision was made to go ahead with a complete renovation. Today, after 14 years, the building is finally ready to go back in commission. (Photo by Thierry Tronnel/Corbis via Getty Images)
