AfD Supporters Protest In Mannheim Following Policeman's Murder

MANNHEIM, GERMANY - 07 JUNE: Supporters of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party gather originally for a campaign event for the European elections a week after the murder of a police officer by an Afghan immigrant, in Mannheim, Germany, 07 June 2024. The AfD was not allowed to demonstrate in front of the memorial. Around 800 people demonstrated against the rally. The assailant, Sulaiman A., attacked people with a knife at a rally of a far-right political group in Mannheim on May 31, injuring anti-Islam activist Michael Stuerzenberger and fatally wounding police officer Rouven L. Police associations across Germany held a moment of silence today at 11:34 to commemorate his death. The murder has sparked a national debate, with political leaders insisting that Afghans who pose a threat to public safety shall be sent back to Afghanistan.
