SOUTH AFRICA - MAY 31: Samples of lung tissue from B P, a 36 year-old Bantu male, born in the Kuruman district of South Africa, where asbestos mines and a large asbestos mill are located. B P was the first case diagnosed with the lung cancer mesothelioma, and his case history features in the Wagner, Sleggs and Marchand paper published in the British Journal of Industrial Medicine in 1960, famous for making the causal link between exposure to blue asbestos (crocidolite) and the lung cancer mesothelioma.
