UNSPECIFIED - MAY 31: Sample of lung tissue from S S, a 40 year-old Bantu male, born in the Kuruman district of South Africa, where as a child he often played on the asbestos dump of a local mine. He was employed in a mine between 1938 and 1941, weighing asbestos fibre. His case history features in the Wagner, Sleggs and Marchand paper published in the British Journal of Industrial Medicine in 1960, famous for making the causal link between exposure to blue asbestos (crocidolite) and the lung cancer mesothelioma.
