Third State Of Emergency Begins In Tokyo Amid Coronavirus Increase

TOKYO, JAPAN - APRIL 25: People wearing face masks walk past a sushi restaurant that has temporarily closed due to the current state of emergency on April 25, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. A third state of emergency was introduced in Tokyo and the prefectures of Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo today amid an increase in Covid-19 coronavirus cases across Japan. Department stores, bars and restaurants serving alcohol and cinemas are required to temporarily close and sports events will be held without spectators from April 25th to May 11th in an attempt to curb infections. With only three months to go until the Olympics, Japan has vaccinated less than one percent of its population in a program which is receiving widespread criticism for its slow pace.
