(Original Caption) Made from a U.S. artillery spotter plane, this photo of the Cathedral City of Cologne shows how Allied bombs and artillery have devastated Germany's fourth largest city. Partly submerged in the Rhine are the remnants of once-great bridges, the Hohenzollern, Hangdrucke and Sudbrucke bridges, all wrecked by German demolition squads to prevent pursuit of the beaten German army across the Rhine. In the center is the Hauptbahnhof rail station, surrounded by a mass of wreckage.
