Corvette Captain Yves Cousteau, of the French Navy, is the commander of France's new oceanographic research ship, the Calypso, bound for her maiden voyage in the Red Sea. Built at Toulon, France, the vessel is actually an ex-American minesweeper, redesigned and modified under Cousteau's direction. accompanying the captain on the three-month voyage will be nine scientists, eight technicians, and photographers, in addition to the crew. Following her return from the Red Sea, the Calypso will sail the waters of the world on a three-month trip.
