The first shows 'Liverpool' locomotive hauling a train of goods wagons. The second shows 'Fury' locomotive hauling carriages carrying cattle. The third is of the locomotive 'Jupiter' hauling first class carriages and a mail coach. The fourth is of the locomotive 'North Star' hauling open topped second class carriages. Constructed under the guidance of chief engineer George Stephenson (1781-1848), the line laid between Liverpool and Manchester was the world's first intercity railway.
