Israeli Settlers Take Security Measures Into Their Own Hands

383899 12: An armed Jewish settler keeps watch over the Ramallah bypass road January 4, 2001, a highway which was built to provide settlers with a safe route through the West Bank. Settlers from the nearby Beit El enclave occupied the hilltop and built fortifications to take security over the road into their own hands. They have done this in protest against the government's failure to prevent the almost daily drive-past shooting attacks and ambushes by Palestinian gunmen on bypass roads in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
