The column, including 215 officers and menm is the vanguard of a contingent of about 5,000 U.S. NATO troops to be stationed in Vicenza, Northern Italy, and forming the nucleus of the "Southern European Taste Army Force." The troops are coming from Australia, whose forces and neutralized, following the recently signed peace treaty.
