TOKYO, JAPAN - 2023/07/05: Akasaka State Guest House is a palace building built during the Meiji period as a residence for the future Emperor Taisho. It has been designated as a national treasure as the Former Togu Palace Akasaka Imperial Palace. Since the late Showa era, it has been used as a guest facility for the country's VIPs. Starting in 2016, the museum has been open to the public year-round, except for certain special days. In 1967 it was decided to restore and remodel the Akasaka Palace to serve as the State Guest House to welcome and provide accommodation for the increasing numbers of state and official guests visiting Japan from overseas. At the Japanese-style garden, miniature mountains have been planted with Japanese plum trees. (Photo by John S Lander/LightRocket via Getty Images)
