(Original Caption) Above is a mockup of an aircraft cockpit, showing the new concept of instrumentation and controls. The two large instruments are flat-plate television tubes upon which information needed to fly the craft would be displayed. The pilot's left hand holds the throttle and his right hand is on the control stick. Reduction of the aircraft control system to these two basic controls is one of the aims of the long-range program being conducted by the office of Naval Research and Development. The new TV tube consists of transparent flat plates. It was developed by the West Coast Electronics division of Willys Motors.
