Fentanyl. Molecular model of the drug fentanyl (C22.H28.N2.O), a synthetic narcotic analgesic used for its rapid onset and short duration of action. It is used as a general anaesthetic and for palliative care. Fentanyl is also used as a recreational drug and has led to thousands of deaths due to overdose or improper medical use each year since 2000.
