John Wiatrak and Dean Kostlich are the songwriting tandem behind the sound of Aliquippa and the founding members of D-Trak Productions. Theirs is a collaboration born from the hills of western Pennsylvania and cultivated on the streets of Manhattan.
John and Dean grew up not far from each other in the town of Aliquippa, just north of Pittsburgh, Pa. This is where the two began playing and writing, forming several bands, and jamming in and around the Pittsburgh area. They parted ways as John moved on to the city of Philadelphia earning his degree in jazz guitar from Temple University. Dean went on to graduate from Penn State University with his degree in Production and Design. It is during these years that the two truly began developing their craft both as the guitarist and bassist that they are and the song writing team that they have become.
Post graduation, the two spent a year writing and gigging in Philadelphia before ultimately ending up in New York City…And these are the years that have made all of the difference. These are the years spent living and gigging out of their small east village apartment. These are the years that have infused their sound with an emotional intensity and multi-cultural harmony found in the musical landscape of the lower east side. These are the years spent delivering countless performances on the beer-soaked, smoke-stained stages of NYC and in the towns and clubs of the Northeast.
Currently, John and Dean are taking D-Trak to the next level… as they continue to record, perform and fully develop their unique live-rock compositions. It’s good time music that entices the listener to dance, sing along, and to connect to the rhythms, voices, harmonic layers and melodic hooks that are their songs. Influences: Simon, Zappa, Zeppelin, Phish, Beatles, Davis, etc….
