Born into a musical family, Jess Stroup took an interest in music at a young age. Beginning with piano at the age of six, he studied many instruments growing up, including piano, double bass, violin, drums, and classical guitar. Live instruments make up the majority of Stroup’s music, with guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, and ethnic instruments frequently appearing in his compositions. A graduate of New York University’s music production program, he is also a trained audio engineer, and it is this blend of technical knowledge and musical background that creates a cutting-edge yet familiar, organic sound.
To date, he has scored commercials for Target, Hewlett Packard, Revlon, Visine, Cricket Mobile, and United Healthcare Services, as well licensing music for American Idol (FOX), Gravity (STARZ), Ugly Betty (FOX), Burn Notice (USA), and The Chronicles of Narnia Special Features DVD's. He has contributed music cues to The Deep End (ABC), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC), Warehouse 13 (SyFy), Trust Me (TNT), The Girls of Hedsor Hall (MTV) and The Bachelor/Bachelorette (ABC). Jess also tours with the world music band Niyaz, playing guitar and doing programming in Ableton Live. Currently, Jess lives in Los Angeles, where he composes, performs live electronic music, and produces albums for independent artists.
