Traffic Halted At Hakata Sinkhole Site After Ground Shifts Again

A 15-meter deep sinkhole that opened up in front of JR Hakata Station on November 8 swallowed a huge chunk of road and threatened the stability of nearby tall buildings. It took a week to fill it in. Traffic was allowed to resume on November 15, while the site was monitored around-the-clock in case the ground shifted again. After taking emergency action, the sinking continued until around 3 am.
