Needles came up from next to last in the back stretch to a three-quarter length victory over Fabius (hidden). Come on Red (outside) was third, Count Chic (on rail) fourth and Pintor Lea, fifth. Time for the mile and a quarter was 2:03-2/5. Winner's share netted oilmen Dudley and Heath $123,450.
