Military Doctor Treating a Somali Child

US Navy physician Chris Ingram examines a young Somali patient at Medcap, which is an outpatient clinic on the Green Line set up as part of "Operation Restore Hope." In the 1980s a civil war in Somalia began when warlord factions joined together to overthrow then president Siad Barre, who finally lost power in 1991. Since then power struggles between warlords have ravaged the country with famine and violence. US and international troops entered Somalia in December of 1992 to provide aid and presence as part of "Operation Restore Hope." (Photo by Peter Turnley/Corbis/VCG via Getty Images)
