Kashmir Protests Over Imposing Ban On Beef

SRINAGAR, KASHMIR, INDIA - SEPTEMBER 11: A Kashmiri Muslim protester holds stones before throwing them at Indian government forces during a protest against India for Imposing ban on the sale of beef in Kashmir on September 11, 2015 in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, India. Indian police used teargas shells and pellets to disperse scores of Kashmiri Muslim protesters protesting against imposing the ban on the sale of beef in Kashmir . The High Court in Indian controlled Kashmir issued orders on Wednesday imposing ban on sale of beef and against the cow slaughter in the Muslim majority state and directing the Indian police to strictly implement the order. The order is a reiteration of a law imposed by the regions former monarchy. Under the law ( section 298A,) a guilty may face 10 years of imprisonment and fine, while imprisonment of one year along with fine is applicable under section 298B. HC's move comes five months after Maharashtra government implemented the beef ban law to prevent slaughter of cows as the animal is considered sacred in Hindu religion. Following the decision of High Court to enforce the ban on sale of beef in the state the Kashmir resistance leaders and different socio-religious and political organisations have threatened a stir against the order and have called for a strike in the state on Saturday.
