HOUSTON, TEXAS - MARCH 14: Life at the minimum-security facility known as the Carol Vance Unit, March 14, 2000, near Houston, Texas. The prison launched a Christian faith based program in 1997, the first to offer prisoners religion around the clock. Known as the InnerChange Freedom Initiative, it is a Bible-based program supporting inmates through their spiritual and moral transformation while incarcerated and continuing after release. Inmates at the state prison unit in Sugar Land, Texas are participating in an experiment in rehabilitation through religious immersion; inmates are to spend up to 18 months in religious support groups and classes on parenting, social skills and 'anger management,' as well as work inside prison; upon release, each will receive six months of 'after-care' monitoring by volunteers affiliated with local church's.
