[UNVERIFIED CONTENT] I spent an hour with this true hero of the Bronx on February 28,2012. Abu Talib is the founder of the Taqwa Community Farm. Back when most thought that the Bronx was lost forever, twenty-one years ago, he became a South Bronx community leader. He didn't do it by talking. Long before it was in vogue, Abu Talib transformed an abandoned dumping ground into an community education center. Now the corner of 164th St. and Ogden Ave. is a place that makes the whole neighborhood proud of their community.
We walked around together and talked about everything from community growth, medicinal qualities of fruits and vegetables and his hands on experience with education. Being a city boy, I especially enjoyed watching and helping him ready the farm for the next season's fifty pounds of of honey. I got to see where the queen lives.
