International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde greets a woman at a makeshift shop which was started thanks to a small loan given ny a micro-finance agency, at Kasengere village in the suburb of Malawi’s capital Lilongwe, on January 5, 2013. The owner of the shop, Joylet Saidi, started her business after getting a loan from the MicroLoan Foundation which receives funds from the International Monetary Fund and distributes them to three local non-profit groups which help empower women - Nteza, Angola, and Chisangalalo. Lagarde urged Malawi to diversify its economy, saying a reliance on agriculture left the country's economic recovery under President Joyce Banda vulnerable.
